Dr. Tim Murph, Principal
Dr. Tim Murph comes to East Voyager Academy of Charlotte with nearly two decades of experience in traditional and charter school settings. He has previously served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and executive director in numerous school districts, both traditional and charter.
Murph’s successes have been acknowledged by his students, parents, and fellow educational leaders, having won both the WYFF News Channel 6 Golden Apple Award for exceptional teaching and the Principal of the Year Award with the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association’s for Class A schools.
Murph earned a Doctor of Education degree from South Carolina State University in 2006 and education specialist and masters degrees from the University of South Carolina in 2004 and 2003 respectively. He is certified and qualified as a South Carolina superintendent of education, principal, secondary math teacher, and secondary science teacher. He is currently transferring his qualifications to North Carolina. He is also certified as a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) to assist students in planning their educational and career goals. Murph also holds certification as a certified athletic administrator through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. In addition, he holds certifications and endorsements in International Baccalaureate (IB) Administration and is a budgets and grants specialist through Research Associates.

EVA Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Jian Zhang explained, “After an extensive search through our consulting firm, we are pleased to have found a leader with the qualities to work well with our Board and the background to develop EVA into the strong academic school we are all committed to. Dr. Murph comes to us with many years of experience as a charter school principal and we are so excited that he has decided to join our team.” Murph explained, “I’m excited about the opportunity to help our Board and parents build the first Chinese Immersion charter school in North Carolina. Construction and remodeling have already began and we are committed to creating the highest quality learning-focused classrooms for our children. We have already begun the hiring process and we are putting together a faculty and staff that is second to none. Dr. Wayne Brazell, recently retired Superintendent of the South Carolina Public Charter School District, and Dr. Xian Wu, the founder of East Point Academy in Columbia, SC, are co-directors of East Academies Foundation, the partner firm that led the principal search. They further added, “We have worked with charter schools across the southeast for many years. Success comes from a strong board and a strong leader, East Voyager has both. This school is destined for greatness.”
